Shannon and Jeff originally planned to have their wedding at the Calgary Zoo, the place where they had their first date, its gorgeous greenery and animals an amazing backdrop for their big day.
The flood that came through Alberta in June of 2013, however, had other plans. The water swept through the Zoo and surrounding areas, washing away many structural buildings, and damaging many others. The Zoo animals were moved to higher ground in order to keep as many safe as possible, and the damage done to the grounds was not easily repairable. This meant that Shannon and Jeff had to find a new venue, extremely last minute.
Thankfully, Heritage Park opened its gates and doors to us, and welcomed us with open arms. The wedding would go on, and it would end up being even more fun than expected.
The couple wanted to incorporate gorgeous, bright colors into their wedding day. The groom picked out an amazing centerpiece for the gift table, inspired by the bird-of-paradise, the flower he gave Shannon when he proposed. They even had custom designed animal crackers (as a tribute to the Zoo!) as favors for their guests to take home, as well as a mouthwatering candy buffet.
The amazing floral artistry of Lyn Chapman gave a vibrant touch to the vibtane Wainwright Hotel in Heritage Park. Even the bridesmaids got in on it, in beautiful blue dresses that coordinated perfectly with the wedding colors. The colors were inspired by a photo Jeff took, and if it works in nature, it will definitely work for your wedding colors!
After an amazingly sweet ceremony at The Palliser in Calgary, we took off to Heritage Park for some great photos of the wedding party. What a fun place! I found such a unique spot, tucked away by the trains, and we took some super cool shots.
Does it get better? It does! Heritage Park opened up their vintage amusement park for Shannon and Jeff and all of their guests. The carousel was spinning, the swings were swinging, and the champagne was flowing. Their guests were treated like absolute royalty, and enjoyed late night root beer floats and poutine. Shannon and Jeff made sure their loved ones had tons of fun and everyone enjoyed the night so so much.
We even set up a photo booth and all of the guests played around with silly props for the camera.
It was a perfect end to a perfect day.
Congratulations to Shannon & Jeff! I wish you all the happiness in the world. Thank you so much for having me be a part of your day!
